City divided over hiking exec pay to tackle IPO crisis
Some worry lower pay in the UK is driving companies overseas. Others worry that greater pay gaps will lead their customers to shun them as ‘fat cats’

It’s been six months since London Stock Exchange boss Julia Hoggett said a “constructive discussion” was needed on the future of executive pay.
Hoggett suggested in a short post on the LSE website in May that the ability of UK-listed companies to attract and retain talent was being “hampered” by asset managers that vote against executive pay policies, even when pay levels are “significantly below global benchmarks”.
