England Vs Iceland Prediction: The Panel's Best Bets, Tips And Preview

England Vs Iceland Predictions:

England finalise their preparations for Euro 2024 against Iceland on Friday night at Wembley Stadium (7.45pm, Channel 4).

Gareth Southgate will run the rule over his squad to make his final cuts ahead of the tournament, having already trimmed James Maddison, Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah from the ranks.

The sight of Iceland ahead of the Euros will give England a timely reminder what can go wrong at a major tournament, eight years removed from their infamous round of 16 defeat

The Panel are confident the Three Lions will not have an issue beating Iceland on this occasion and are backed up by UK betting sites with England overwhelming favourites at 1/8.

Instead, The Panel are focusing on other selections for their betting tips after looking at the form guide and trends surrounding the two sides.

England Vs Iceland Prediction: Kane To Break The Ice

Harry Kane will hold the key for England at Euro 2024 and he arguably owes his team after his costly penalty miss in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final against France.

The England skipper needed only 27 minutes to make an impact against Bosnia, finding the net just before the final whistle. The difference between Kane and England’s next top forward Ollie Watkins was clearly on display.

Kane is a world-class operator and Southgate needs his leading man at the peak of his powers to finally get over the line in a major tournament.

Fortunately, Kane has been in prime form for Bayern Munich, even though the Bavarian outfit failed to lift a trophy last season. Kane scored 44 goals in all competitions, including seven in his last 10 games.

The 30-year-old has a tremendous record for England since the World Cup, scoring in eight of his 10 appearances. He notched the opening goal on three occasions, and The Panel like his odds of 12/5 on football betting sites to fire first against Iceland at Wembley.

England Vs Iceland Betting: Will Foden Find His Range?

Phil Foden is another ace that Southgate will be hoping is firing on all cylinders at the Euros. The 24-year-old enjoyed the best goalscoring season of his career in Manchester City’s surge to the Premier League crown.

Foden notched 19 goals in the top flight, eight more than his previous best in the 2022/23 campaign. It was not only the volume of goals that was impressive, Foden also scored at vital times in the campaign, none more so than the nerve-settler against West Ham on the final day of the term.

Goalscoring is certainly an area where he can improve for England. In 33 caps, Foden has only notched four goals, a staggeringly low amount for a player of his calibre.

The primary reason for Foden’s improvement was the increased activity of his shooting, registering at least one effort on goal in 32 of his 35 Premier League games. His accuracy was also notable, especially in the climax of the season, putting one effort on target in nine of his last 10 matches.

The Panel have noted this and are backing Foden to register two shots on target against Iceland at 4/5 with Bet365. This wager would have paid out in six of Foden’s last 10 Premier League games.

The Panel Tip: Phil Foden Over 1.5 Shots On Target – 4/5 Bet365

England Vs Iceland Tips: Clean Sheet On England Agenda

The Three Lions’ strength entering the Euros revolves around their midfield and forward line, while Jordan Pickford has been one of the most reliable keepers at international level for over six years.

However, there are major questions marks regarding the defence. Kyle Walker has established himself as arguably the best right-back in football, while John Stones has developed into a top-class defender when fit.

Harry Maguire has been ruled out of the Euros with a calf problem, while Luke Shaw is also an injury doubt, thrusting Kieran Trippier into the spotlight at left-back off a poor end to the season for Newcastle.

Marc Guehi, Lewis Dunk, Joe Gomez and Ezri Konsa are all battling to partner Stones in Maguire’s absence.

A changed line-up kept a clean sheet against Bosnia, and Southgate will be looking for a second shutout in a row ahead of their opener against Serbia with senior players expected to start.

The Panel are not convinced Iceland can break down England at Wembley and are taking the odds of 8/13 on betting apps for the hosts to keep a clean sheet.
