From Scarborough to Weymouth, Exmoor to Torquay, four British B&Bs have been named among the “best of the best” in the entire world based on reviews from previous guests. The prestigious accolade was given to the four bed and breakfasts as part of Tripadvisor’s Best of the Best Traveller’s Choice Awards for 2024.

Although the number one spot was taken by the Voile Bleue B&B in Mauritius, a British B&B came in second place. The Toulson Court in Scarborough dropped one spot to second, having been named the number one B&B for 2023.

The B&B is famed for its “knowledgeable hosts and attentive hospitality”, and though it is categorised as a three-star hotel, has achieved a five out of a possible five stars from more than 2,000 guest reviews.

The B&B prides itself on providing home comforts and has rooms from £87.50 per night.

In sixth place is Highcliffe House, located in Lynton. Perched atop a mountain this Victorian B&B promises panoramic views of Exmoor and the North Devon headlands.

The adults-only accommodation was recommended by former guests for the “genuine conversational hosts” and “impressive a la carte breakfast selection”.

The B&B is well-placed for scenic hikes from Lynton and has access to the water-powered cliff railway between the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth. Rooms start from £150 per night according to the B&B’S website.

Gloucester House in the Dorset seaside town of Weymouth came eight on the list, known for its stunning seafront location and panoramic vistas of Weymouth Bay and the Jurassic coastline. Rooms are available, on average, from around £141 a night, though this can vary depending on the time of year.

The B&B is considered to be a “luxury boutique” accommodation, with a variety of room categories.

Finally, sitting in the tenth spot on the list is Torquay’s The Berburry Hotel. The cosy Victorian villa is home to 10 individually designed en-suite bedrooms, which have been highly rated by previous guests.

Those who reviewed the hotel said they loved the comfy rooms and also applauded the diverse breakfast served each morning in the elegant dining room. Rooms are available for £100 on average at the time of writing.

The Tripadvisor awards aim to “shine a light on travellers’ favourite experiences around the world”, with other categories spanning the best hotels in the US, best luxury hotels and best all-inclusive resorts.
