On Saturday 6 April in 50mph wind and rain a team of 22 from Ikonic Technology Ltd took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, raising over £14,000 for Duchenne UK.

Based in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Pen-Y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m), and Ingleborough (723m) form part of a 24-mile circular route known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks. The challenge is to complete the route within 12 hours.

The 22-strong team from Ikonic led by Ikonic’s managing director, Chris Perry, and guided by the outdoor events specialists at Challenge the Wild, completed the entire route in an impressive 11 hours and 20 minutes. The day involved some slips, a few falls, quite a bit of mud, and a lot of wind.

Speaking after the walk, Ikonic MD Chris Perry said: “It’s been a really tough day; the strong winds and muddy conditions have made a difficult challenge even harder. But I am immensely proud of the Ikonic team and everybody who took part. It’s made even sweeter knowing that we have raised such an incredible amount for Duchenne UK.”

At the time of writing Ikonic has raised £14,237 and is still gathering donations via their page on Just Giving www.justgiving.com/team/ikonic

Duchenne UK is the leading Duchenne muscular dystrophy charity in the UK, it connects the best researchers with industry, the NHS, and families.

Duchenne UK knows what patients need because they are patients themselves – living this disease on the front line. Taking an innovative approach to funding: Duchenne UK not only accelerates research and brings treatments to patients but works to change the landscape of drug development. This collaborative approach means that treatments are brought to patients as quickly and effectively as possible.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a progressive condition diagnosed in childhood. It causes all the muscles in the body to gradually weaken.

There is currently no cure for Duchenne, but there is hope. Duchenne UK is at the forefront of advancing treatments and care for everyone affected by the disease.

Ikonic’s sales director Tony Levene’s son Joey has been living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy for 17 years after being diagnosed when he was one, creating a close connection between Ikonic and Duchenne UK.

Tony said: “Since Joey was first diagnosed Ikonic has always been extremely supportive of Joey, me, and my family. Over the years the Ikonic team has completed several challenges, including walking over burning hot coals but in my opinion, with the conditions, the Yorkshire Three Peaks has been the toughest challenge Ikonic has ever undertaken. I couldn’t be more proud and more touched by everything that the Ikonic team does in the fight against Duchenne.”
