There’s nothing worse than paying to visit an expensive tourist attraction and finding it doesn’t live up to your expectations.
While Hollywood’s Walk of Fame has previously been named the world’s worst tourist attraction, the UK unfortunately had some sites that left people less than impressed.
But which were the most disappointing?
The team at Preply analysed ratings and reviews on Tripadvisor to find which of the UK’s top attractions received low review scores.
The Tate Modern in London was named as the UK’s most disappointing attraction with 23 percent of visitors left unimpressed.
‘Sam M’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Really boring. The whole building had no atmosphere. Many better things to see and do in London.”
‘Chris I’ opined: “I can’t get over in 100 characters just how terrible and utterly pretentious this gallery is. A pile of sand, a urinal, a f****** receipt stuck to the wall.”
Perhaps it goes without saying that tourists probably won’t enjoy the Tate Modern if they don’t like modern art.
Some tourists said they loved their experience at the gallery with one person saying: “There’s a lot to see and do, we didn’t allow enough time sadly so I definitely want to return. Some very good exhibitions here.”
‘Wayne M’ said: “The Tate Modern has been a place I had wanted to go for a while and it didn’t let me down. A definite must visit if you are a fan of modern art.”
The Science Museum and Stonehenge rounded off the top three most disappointing attractions in the UK. Someone said the museum wasn’t interactive enough while Stonehenge was described as “disappointing” for young people.
Blackpool Tower and the Southbank Centre also left some visitors unimpressed despite being popular British landmarks.
